Credit Cards from Departmental Stores and Specialty Shops

Department stores and specialty shops issue cards with a monetary limit on the purchases and give rewards by way of discounts on the next purchase, gift certificates and the like. If someone is thinking of rebuilding credit history and end up with a good credit report, these department stores and specialty shops cards could be a way to go. One factor that needs to be confirmed is that whether the records of credit transactions get communicated o credit bureaus. GapCard or a Linens 'n Things card, Nordstrom store card, Bloomingdale's, Banana Republic store card are some of the examples of store credit cards. The companies that issue these cards offer great rewards to ensure that the customers are loyal to them.

Many stores now come with co-branded credit cards. VISA or Mastercard and give co-branded cards to customers. The users of these types of credit cards not only enjoy great rewards from the stores, but also can use these as regular credit cards elsewhere. The monthly payment usually goes to the store that issued the card and carries the usual interest rates the credit card companies charge. It is common to find co-branded credit cards with very low interest rates. TJX Platinum Visa from Capital One, BJ’s Platinum Mastercard, Nordstrom Platinum Visa, Toys R Us Visa, and Wal-Mart Platinum Mastercard are some of the examples of co-branded credit cards.

It would be a good idea to use co branded credit cards issued from a specialty shop, like Wal-Mart, if one does substantial purchases from these stores. The benefits to the user are more than what they might get if they use the regular credit cards – more discounts on future purchases and low interest rates. If someone is re-establishing credit history, co-branded credit card serves two purposes – live with regular payments and establishing good credit records for a satisfactory credit report.
